How the Alpenhunde Timing Set works
From the start signal to the analysis – everything wireless, precise, and intuitive.
1. Easy setup – ready to go in minutes
The Alpenhunde system is wireless and set up within minutes. It connects automatically via radio. All modules stay synchronized automatically – for precise times from the very first moment.
2. Precise timing
Times are recorded precisely via the start and finish modules – contactless, reliable, and accurate to the millisecond. The system can be expanded with up to six split times. It also works over long distances, in challenging weather conditions, and with simultaneous triggering of the photocells.
3. Control via app or PC software
4. Results & analysis – instantly available
All data is stored securely on the device and can be easily exported. Results are clearly displayed directly in the app – and can be uploaded effortlessly to Stacy for training analysis and sharing with athletes and children. For each training session, a link can be generated that allows all participants to view the results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the Alpenhunde Timing system
Setup & Installation
How long does it take to set up the Alpenhunde Timing System?
Setup takes only a few minutes. All components are compactly integrated into the device, so no cables need to be laid. After being switched on, the modules synchronize automatically via radio within a few seconds. No specific power-on sequence is required – the system is ready for use immediately afterwards.
Does the system require a cable connection or power supply on site?
No, the system works completely wirelessly. Each module is equipped with an integrated LiPo battery and provides a runtime of approximately 10 hours. Charging is done via the Alpenhunde chargers or an Alpenhunde USB charger and takes about one hour. No external power supply or cable connection is required on site.
Does the system also work in challenging conditions (e.g. terrain, trees, crests)?
Yes. The Alpenhunde Timing System uses LoRa radio technology (Long Range), which is specifically designed for extremely long distances. This allows it to reliably bridge visual barriers and obstacles such as forests, vegetation, or crests. Even on uneven or mountainous courses, the radio connection remains stable and reliable.
What steps are necessary before use?
Before use, the modules are set up and turned on. The system automatically establishes the radio connection and synchronizes itself. Successful synchronization should then be verified in the Alpenhunde app. It is also recommended to clear old times before use. After that, the system can be operated directly via the Alpenhunde app or, in race mode, via the RENZSO race software. No fixed power-on sequence is required.
Technology
How accurately does the Alpenhunde Timing System measure?
The Alpenhunde Timing System operates with a precision of up to 1/10,000 of a second. The modules first synchronize via the central unit (master). After that, all modules are continuously calibrated via the master, ensuring that the high measurement accuracy is maintained consistently even over longer training or competition periods.
Are multiple timing points possible simultaneously?
Yes. In addition to start and finish, the system can be expanded with up to six split times. All data is centrally consolidated and displayed in real time.
How does the radio connection between the modules work?
The modules communicate via LoRa radio technology (Long Range). On this basis, Alpenhunde has built its own patented radio network, designed for long distances and reliable operation without direct line of sight. All timestamps are synchronized within this radio network and transmitted in real time.
In addition to the radio connection, the modules provide a Wi-Fi connection through which communication between the system and the operating device takes place – either with a mobile device via the Alpenhunde app or with a laptop via the RENZSO race software.
What happens if a module loses the radio signal?
Each module stores all timestamps locally. If the radio connection is briefly interrupted, no data is lost. As soon as the connection is restored, the stored timestamps can be resynchronized as needed, ensuring that all data is once again fully available in the system.
Operation & Software
How is the Alpenhunde Timing System operated?
The Alpenhunde Timing System can be operated in two ways. In training mode, the Alpenhunde app is used for control. In race mode, however, the system is operated via the Renzso race software. This way, the operation is optimally tailored to each intended use.
Do I need an internet connection to use the software?
No, an internet connection is not required. The modules create their own Wi-Fi access point. In training mode, a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) connects via the Alpenhunde app. In races, a laptop with the RENZSO software is connected via this access point.
How are times assigned to athletes or runners in the system?
Assigning times to athletes is very flexible both in the app and in the Renzso software. With the Alpenhunde app, you can create groups and participants in advance. A starter is then assigned via a selection list in the app. The assignment can be made before the run, changed during the run, or adjusted afterwards on a recorded time. In RENZSO (on the laptop), this works the same way: the runner is logged in before the start, can be changed during the run, or correctly assigned after crossing the finish line.
In addition to the radio connection, the modules provide a Wi-Fi connection through which communication between the system and the operating device takes place – either with a mobile device via the Alpenhunde app or with a laptop via the Renzso race software.
Can false triggers be corrected?
Yes, false triggers create a timestamp and initially stop the running time. When the actual runner triggers the system later, a second, correct timestamp is generated. In the system, you simply assign the correct, later timestamp to the runner so that their time is accurate.
Areas of application
Which sports is the Alpenhunde Timing System suitable for?
The Alpenhunde Timing System is versatile – suitable for timing ski races as well as other disciplines. It is suitable for alpine skiing, Nordic skiing – including mass starts with up to approximately 30 starters – mountain biking and downhill mountain biking, alpine inline skating, and athletics applications.
Can the system be used both in training and in official races?
Yes. The Alpenhunde Timing System is designed for both training use and race operation. In training, it is operated via the Alpenhunde app, while in race mode the system is fully integrated into the RENZSO race software. This way, operation and analysis are optimally tailored to each intended use.
Which disciplines does the Alpenhunde Timing System support?
The Alpenhunde Timing System supports slalom disciplines with up to four runs. In the near future, the RENZSO race software will additionally be expanded to support parallel disciplines.
Accessories & Extensions

Does Alpenhunde offer onboarding or training for new users?
Yes. Alpenhunde offers onboarding sessions and training tailored to each specific use case. These can be conducted in person on site, by phone, or via video conference. Topics include, among other things, the initial setup of the system, the operation of the app or the Renzso race software, and typical procedures in training and race operations.
Is there regular maintenance or recommended service intervals?
Regular maintenance is not necessary during operation. The Alpenhunde Timing System is designed to be low-maintenance. It is recommended to regularly update the devices to the latest software and firmware versions and to briefly check them before the season.
Before extended storage, for example over the summer, all batteries should be fully charged.
